The Sunshine

The Sunshine was built in the early 1900's in Bath, Maine on the lines of a Gloucester fishing vessel. Confiscated by the U.S. Government as a rum runner, she was then purchased at auction in 1926 by H.S. Denniston of Great Neck, New York. The Denniston family moved to Mobile, AL in 1928. From that time until 1942 the family and guests sailed her on weekends forty or more times per year. During the summers of 1930 through 1933 she participated in the race from St. Petersburg, FL to Havana, Cuba. This is the schooner Sunshine sailing by Moro Castle and entering Havana harbor after winning the race in 1931.
